Living in an urbanized city like Makati where condo units somehow feel and look the same, some may prefer to deviate when it comes to their home’s design and architecture. For today’s article, we’re fortunate to come along with a client who was looking for a window treatment solution for their home. The ask? For their Roman-styled arches to meet order.

Stepping into a Roman-styled home feels timeless as one could feel like they are stepping into a piece of history with the tall arches and grand proportions paired with neat white walls. These homes are designed to feel open and airy, with those beautiful, curved windows to complete the vibe. However, even a breathtaking setup like this could present some challenges. Clients would of course want to enjoy the view and the light, but they also need a way to manage privacy without hiding the architectural features that make their space special.

For our Makati project, we found that the solution to balancing those soft Roman curves was all about adding a bit of clean, intentional structure with white wood blinds.

White wood blinds consist of horizontal slats made of real wood. These slats are usually covered with high-quality paint to achieve that classic look and furniture-like finish that complements house interiors. These wood blinds installed for our Makati client were the ideal choice because the neat white finish matches the grandeur of the Roman-styled windows. The horizontal slats create a sharp contrast against the arched windows.

Beyond looking great, these blinds are practical for a busy home. With a simple adjustment, clients can fill the room with the natural light of Makati or tilt them shut for a more cozy, private feel. Switching from one look to another is as easy as pulling a cord despite the window size and style. This way, both sunlit aesthetic and privacy can be achieved.

Choosing white blinds was a wise move to keep the space feeling bright and open. White welcomes natural light and while the space is inherently large with Roman-styled windows, the white blinds make the room more sophisticated and timeless-looking. Our installation excluded the arched part of windows. This way, the architecture is maintained and more natural light comes in. Since the rounded corners are in a much higher part of the window space, privacy is not compromised.

When we see Roman-style architecture, we are brought to a different timeline but pair it with window treatments like wood blinds, this style meets order. In this specific installation, the white slats act as a neutral backdrop that doesn’t compete with the grace and style of the windows. By installing the blinds within the window’s frame, we were able to keep the living space functional while letting the unique shape of the windows take the spotlight. The final result is a space that feels both historic and modern—a perfect example of what happens when classic architecture meets smart, simple order and design.
